DTI Foundation was invited to attend the Sudanese Society of Nephrology & Transplantation 8th International Conference from the 13th to the 15th of January.

Chloë Ballesté, our International Cooperation and Development Director, presented during the pre-conference workshop and had a presentation during the last day of the conference to talk about the international overview of organ donation and transplantation.

During our visit we had the opportunity to visit two hospitals in the area. Both hospitals wish to start implementing a deceased donation program: Accident and Emergency Hospital (Omdurman Military Hospital) and Aliaa Specialist Hospital. We are grateful to the board of directors from both hospitals for giving us the opportunity to visit their ICUs and for explaining their experiences in organ donation in the last few years.

We look forward to collaborating with Sudan for further development of deceased donation programs in their hospitals through the Ministry of Health and hospital directors.

Dr. Abubakr Abdalwahab M. Alhassen Ahmed, M.D Internal Medicine at Omdurman Military Hospital, specialized in organ donation and transplantation in 2016 when he studied the International Master for Donation and Transplantation of Organs, Tissues and Cells. He has been supporting a deceased donation program in Sudan since then.

Dr. Maria Figini, specialist in Organ Donation, ICU and Paediatric ICU, accompanied us in this trip and shared her knowledge through outstanding presentations.
