Spain Breaks Records in Organ Donation and Transplants in 2024
📢 Spain reaffirms its global leadership in organ donation and transplantation with historic figures in 2024.
The Spanish National Transplant Organization (ONT) has announced a record-breaking year, with 6,464 organ transplants, a 10% increase compared to 2023. This achievement was made possible thanks to the generosity of 2,562 deceased donors, reaching a rate of 52.6 donors per million population (p.m.p.), the highest in the world.
🔹 30% increase in lung transplants.
🔹 9% more deceased donors.
In Catalonia, the Catalan Transplant Organization (OCATT) reported that, despite performing 3.5% fewer transplants, 2024 was the third-best year in the region’s history, with a total of 1,344 organ transplants.
💙 These milestones reflect the strength of the Spanish model and the excellence of healthcare professionals, solidifying Spain as a global leader in organ donation and transplantation.
