At DTI Foundation, we are proud to continue the legacy of Dr. José Manuel García Buitrón, a pioneer in organ donation and transplantation and a founding member of our foundation, through the Pepe Buitrón Scholarship.
This initiative reflects Dr. Buitrón’s deep commitment to equity, solidarity, and the advancement of global healthcare by supporting the training of professionals from low- and middle-income countries.
With your support, we can keep his legacy alive and expand the reach of his impact.
Dr. Buitrón was a transplant urologist, former director of the Oficina de Coordinación de Trasplantes and Hospital Manager of Hospital Juan Canalejo / Complexo Hospitalario Universitario de A Coruña in Spain. He was also a founding member and Vice President of DTI Foundation.
For more than 30 years, he actively promoted training and cooperation in countries such as Trinidad and Tobago, the Philippines, and Cuba, among many others. His work continues to inspire healthcare professionals around the world.

About the Scholarship
The Pepe Buitrón Scholarship is an initiative promoted by DTI Foundation to honor the legacy of Dr. José Manuel García Buitrón and to foster equity, inclusion and access to specialized training in organ, tissue and cell donation and transplantation.
This call is addressed to healthcare professionals from developing countries or countries with limited resources who wish to strengthen their knowledge and skills in the field of donation and transplantation, with the aim of improving practices in their hospitals, regions and countries of origin.
This call includes two international training opportunities:
Curso Superior Internacional en Donación y Trasplante de Órganos y Tejidos, TPM® – 37th Edition
Delivered in Spanish, with online sessions and an on-site component in Barcelona in February 2027.
Donation After Circulatory Death (DCD) Advanced International Training Course – 10th Edition
Delivered in English, with online sessions and an on-site component in Coruña in April 2027.
The scholarship covers the full course registration fee and accommodation during the training, including full board at the hotel designated by DTI Foundation. Other expenses, such as flights, visa-related costs, additional nights, meals not included in the program and personal expenses, are not covered.
Applications are open until August 30, 2026.

Your contribution can help healthcare professionals from regions with limited resources access advanced training in donation and transplantation, creating a direct impact in their hospitals, communities and healthcare systems.
A donation of 2.500€ is enough to fully sponsor one participant, covering the course registration fee and accommodation during the training.
