We were pleased to have with us Dr. Shanti Singh, President of the Human Organ and Tissue Transplant Agency of Guyana (HOATTA), and Daniel Albrecht, a dedicated Advisor in Health Systems and Services in Guyana. They traveled to Barcelona to explore and learn about the Spanish organ donation system.

During their stay, they had the privilege of visiting some of the most prestigious institutions in the field of organ donation and transplantation, such as OCATT, and observing the processes at the organ and tissue procurement organization in Catalonia. They finished visiting the Banc de Sang i Teixits (BST).

During their visit to the Hospital Clinic, they visited the Transplant Coordination Unit with Dr. David Paredes. They also had the opportunity to know more about the several transplant programs that the hospital performs as well as the Centre diagnostic biomedic (CDB) and the immunology laboratory with Dr. Eduard Palou located at the Hospital Clinic. On their last day, they visited the Transplant Coordination Unit of Hospital Germans Tries i Pujol. Here, they were informed about the coordination efforts explained by Dr. Belén Garcés, Dr. Pilar Robert, and Ms. Consuelo Villanueva

These collaborations are key to strengthening healthcare systems worldwide. The visit of Dra. Shanti Singh and Daniel Albrecht to Barcelona promise to bring back knowledge and experience that will benefit organ transplant practice in Guyana. It was a pleasure for DTI to accompany them during these days.
