Between November 6 and 7, Barcelona became the epicenter of transplant medicine for 12 healthcare professionals from around the world. These experts participated in the Transplant Procurement Management Advanced International Course, organized by DTI Foundation, with the aim of immersing themselves in the renowned Spanish model of organ and tissue donation and transplantation.

The visitors, representatives from different countries, had the opportunity to learn in detail about the successful Spanish approach to organ and tissue donation and transplantation. The program included visits to several hospital units, which will allow them to acquire valuable knowledge to be applied later in their own countries.

On the morning of the first day, the delegation was able to visit the Organització Catalana de Trasplantaments (OCATT), where they were received by Dr. Jaume Tort, director of the organization. In the afternoon, they participated in the inaugural session of the Transplant Procurement Management Advanced International Training Course.

The second day of the visit began at the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, where the delegation had the opportunity to learn about the functioning of the hospital and its various units involved in organ and tissue donation and transplantation. The day was opened with a warm welcome by Dr. Castells, as representative of the board of directors, and the heads of different units of the hospital.

Throughout the day, they had the opportunity to visit the immunology laboratory led by Dr. Eduard Palou and learn more about the operation of perfusion machines, guided by its responsible Marc Bohils. The Transplant Coordination Unit was attended by Dr. Gerard Sánchez, head of the section, and Dr. David Paredes, transplant coordinator, who was in charge of explaining how it works and accompanied the delegation on their visit to the Emergency Unit and the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) together with Dr. Sara Fernández. Finally, the day ended with a round table discussion with experts from the different transplant programs at the hospital, including Dr. Joana Ferrer (General Surgery and Pancreatic Transplant Service), Dr. Pedro Ventura (Nephrologist and Renal and Pancreatic Transplant), Dr. Jordi Colmenero (Hepatologist and Liver Transplant) and Dr. Yiliam Fundora (Head of Liver Transplant Surgery).

Dr. Martí Manyalich, President of DTI Foundation, accompanied the visitors during their visit to Hospital Clínic, enriching the experience with his expertise in the field.

After concluding the morning session at Hospital Clínic, the delegation headed to Hospital Germans Tries i Pujol, located in Badalona, to learn about the Spanish model of organ and tissue donation from a different perspective.

This international collaboration has aimed to broaden the knowledge and experience of these health professionals, promoting global cooperation in the field of organ and tissue donation and transplantation. For the DTI Foundation it has been a pleasure and an honor to organize this conference.
