International experts learn more about the Spanish Organ Donation System
Last Friday, we were honored to welcome two distinguished professionals in the field of organ transplantation.
Dr. Thao Galvan, an adult and pediatric abdominal transplant surgeon from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, visited us to gain insights into the Spanish organ donation and transplantation model. Her goal was to explore how these models could inspire improvements at her institution. During her visit, Dr. Galvan engaged with the Hospital Clínic’s nephrology team and the Coordination Unit, discussing best practices and the key factors behind the success of local transplant programs.
We were also pleased to meet Dr. Raed Alghamdi, a Transplant Coordinator from the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation (SCOT), Saudi Arabia’s national transplant agency. Dr. Alghamdi will be undertaking an observership at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, where he will further enhance his expertise in the field.
Both professionals had the opportunity to visit the Catalan Transplant Organization (OCATT), exchanging ideas and learning from the region’s exemplary organ donation and transplant systems. The visit was a valuable opportunity to foster international collaboration and share knowledge and best practices to advance organ donation and transplantation efforts worldwide.
