EMPODaT demonstrates long-term impact on donation and transplantation in the MENA region
We are pleased to announce that our article “Impact of the European–Mediterranean Postgraduate Program on Organ Donation and Transplantation (EMPODaT): A Survey Analysis at 6 Years” has been published in the scientific journal Transplantology.
The study assessed the impact of EMPODaT six years after its implementation, evaluating healthcare professionals from Egypt, Lebanon, and Morocco. The findings are highly encouraging:
73.9% of participants remain active in the field of donation and transplantation.
Several have taken on leadership positions in their hospitals and national systems.
65% reported improvements in policies and practices, particularly in donor screening, brain death diagnosis, and hospital reforms.
Many participants have gone on to train other professionals, multiplying the program’s impact.
These results confirm the importance of structured training and international collaboration in building sustainable systems and promoting best practices in organ donation and transplantation.
We would like to thank all the professionals, institutions, and colleagues who contributed to EMPODaT and to this research. This success is shared and demonstrates the strength of working together towards a common goal: saving lives through donation and transplantation.
