In late August and early September 2024, a delegation from the DTI Foundation, led by President Dr. Martí Manyalich, visited China to foster collaboration in organ donation and procurement. The trip included visits to several key hospitals and participation in influential conferences, with the goal of enhancing global cooperation and improving organ donation practices.

The delegation’s journey began in Yichang on August 26, where they visited the Yichang Central People’s Hospital to exchange best practices in organ donation and procurement. This was followed by a visit to Zhongnan Hospital in Wuhan on August 27, ahead of their participation in the 2024 National Conference on Human Organ Procurement Organization and the China-International Donor Hospital Training Program. The event was co-organized together with the National Center for Quality Control of Human Organ Donation of China (OPQC) and the China Organ Transplantation Development Foundation (COTDF). It was held from August 27 to 30 and gathered over 130 healthcare professionals from across China. It served as a pivotal platform to advance cooperation, foster discussions on key topics in organ donation, and strengthen international collaboration to drive high-quality development in the field.

On September 1, the DTI team attended the 2nd Yangcheng International Organ Donation and Transplantation Multidisciplinary Forum in Guangzhou.  Experts from both local and international backgrounds engaged in comprehensive discussions on topics such as international experiences in organ donation, and the promotion of high-quality organ donation, aiming to build consensus and strengthen collaboration across disciplines. The delegation also visited the Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) at the Southern Theater General Hospital, reinforcing international collaboration.

The trip concluded in Zhongshan on September 2 with the Zhongshan International Symposium on Human Organ and Tissue Donation.

The event was a success, and we want to thank Prof. Ye Qifa, Prof. Huo Feng, Dr. Xiaoli Fan, Prof. Yanfeng Wang and Dr. Tan Xiaoyu (Michael) and many other healthcare professionals for supporting us during these visits. This trip marked a significant step in strengthening ties between DTI Foundation and Chinese medical institutions, furthering the global effort to advance organ donation and transplantation.
