China-International Donor Hospital Training Program
From August 27 to 30, 2024, the China-International Donor Hospital Training Program on Organ Donation and Procurement was successfully held in Wuhan, China. This training, co-organized by DTI Foundation, together with the National Center for Quality Control of Human Organ Donation of China (OPQC), and the China Organ Transplantation Development Foundation (COTDF), gathered experts from China, Spain, Italy, Croatia, Brazil and Iran, focusing on improving organ donation practices through workshops and seminars.
The course included discussions on China’s organ donation development, international models and best practices in critical care management of donors with brain death led by local experts and international experts. Local experts included Prof Ye Qifa, Prof. Huo Feng and Prof. Zheng Shusen, amongst others. From DTI, we ensured some international experts attended the course to allow participants to have an international perspective on organ donation best practices. Some of the international experts who participated in the course were Prof. Martí Manyalich and Prof. Dr. Chloë Ballesté, as well as Dr. Mauricio Galvao (Brazil), Dr. Marco Sacchi (Italy), Dr. Omid Ghobadi (Iran), Dr. Juan Villar (Spain) and Dr. Željka Gavranović (Croatia), who shared their knowledge and expertise with over 130 professionals from 74 hospitals.
Participants engaged in interactive workshops covering donor detection, brain death diagnosis, family interviews, and donor management. In addition, participants got to understand the roles and responsibilities as leaders and health professionals involved in the management of organ donation and transplantation better through workshops focusing on quality program, finance and management, as well as organ procurement workflow. These sessions aimed to improve coordination, management and the quality of the organ donation system in China. The course concluded with certificates awarded to participants, marking another step forward to saving more lives worldwide.
