1st Transplant Procurement Management Course in Oman
This week, we visited the Sultanate of Oman to contribute to the enhancement of organ donation and transplantation initiatives. Dr. Ahmed Al-Busaidi, representing the National Organ Transplantation Program, graciously invited some experts from the Donation and Transplantation Institute to assess the current landscape of organ donation and transplantation in key hospitals across Oman, including the Royal Hospital, Nizwah Hospital, Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, and Khoula Hospital. We also held a pivotal meeting at the Ministry of Health and visited the Histocompatibility Lab to further their understanding.
Moreover, from December 19th to the 21st, over 40 participants seized the opportunity to enroll in the inaugural Transplant Procurement Management Course hosted in Oman. This comprehensive course commenced with an official ceremony during the Sultanate of Oman’s Organ Donation Day on December 19th, graced by esteemed representatives of the Ministry of Health, notably led by His Highness Kamil bin Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said, the Secretary-General of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers. Diverse healthcare professionals engaged in organ donation and transplantation, including Heads of ICU, intensivists, nurses, and surgeons, among others, comprised the student body.
This collaboration signifies a robust step forward in fortifying organ donation and transplantation strategies in Oman, fostering inclusive education, and harnessing collective expertise for the betterment of healthcare practices. The DTI Foundation remains committed to supporting Oman’s health initiatives and looks forward to further collaborations in advancing organ donation and transplantation efforts.
