Proving Small Acts of Kindness Can Make a Big Change

From April 4th to 8th DTI Foundation is taking part in the Little By Little Campaign, aimed at continuing fundraising for our project Save One Million Lives. During 5 days Global Giving will be matching 50% of all donations up to $50, meaning your donation will go further to help save one million lives.

The Little-by-Little campaign is a one week long campaign, the money raised goes to our project Save One Million Lives. Every year 1 million people are added to the list of those to receive an organ transplant. Sadly, less than 10% of the surgical procedures needed globally are performed.

This project empowers doctors and nurses from Africa, Asia, and South America by giving them critical knowledge needed to increase organ donations, train local medical experts as well as implement organ donation and transplantation programs.

SEHA and DTI Foundation organize an event to promote Organ Donation in UAE in the framework of the EXPODUBAI 2020

Abu Dhabi Health Services (SEHA) and DTI Foundation in collaboration with the Spain Pavilion organized an awareness event to promote the organ donation in UAE. The event took place in the Spain Pavilion at the Expo 2020 Dubai. It drew many attendees in person as well online last Saturday.

The event provided a valuable opportunity to meet and exchange knowledge about organ donation and raise awareness in the UAE.

Since 2015, DTI Foundation's collaboration with SEHA and the UEA National Transplant committee has been beneficial, creating protocols and guidelines for the management of an organ donation system in UAE.

DTI Foundation is currently supporting SEHA for the consolidation of a deceased organ donation program with a SEUSA (Spanish, Europe, USA) program, to increase self-sufficiency in deceased organ donation. DTI Foundation looks forward to grow organ donation numbers in the future.

So far, more than 390 physicians and nurses have been trained in the organ donation and transplantation field. Since September 2021, the project has made possible the achievement of 38 utilized donors and 159 organs transplanted.

Virtual Reality Workshop at the University of Barcelona

On October 29th, a virtual reality educational experience was put into practice with 3rd year medical degree students from the Clinical Campus of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Barcelona.

This activity was carried out within a subject coordinated by Dr. Clhoë Ballesté, Ricard Valero and David Paredes.

It is an experience through 360º videos and virtual reality glasses that he develops and an interview with the different members of a patient's family. It is an immersive learning activity that allows students to put themselves in the shoes of a doctor and live the experience as if it were real. In this way, they have been able to work in much more detail, within virtual reality, the communication of bad news aimed at the relatives of patients.

The activity has been very well received by students.

This virtual reality experience was created by the Donation and Transplantation Institute (DTI) Foundation in conjunction with Immersium Studios.

European Solidarity Corps

The European Solidarity Corps (ESC), known until 2016 as European Voluntary Service (EVS), is an international volunteering program by the European Commission for young people to go individually or in teams to another country, usually from one European country to another, to work for a non-profit cause. Since 2017, the program also offers opportunities for European youth to get engaged as volunteers in their own communities.

DTI has applied for this program. Thanks to this application, during the 2021 DTI has counted with the participation of two volunteers from Poland. They have participated in two different projects for 9 months.  The main goal of the activity has been to support the development and implementation of organ and tissue training programs. The reception of the volunteers in the Foundation has allowed them to be trained both in the field of donation and transplantation and in the learning training and cooperation.
