DTI Foundation cooperates with the Council of Europe in a diagnosis visit in the Republic of Belarus

On the past 7th of December, the European Committee on Organ Transplantation (CD-P-TO), the steering committee in charge of organ transplantation activities at the Council of Europe,  visited the Republic of Belarus with the goal of analyzing and evaluating the current situation of the system of transplant and donation of Belarus.

In this context, a multidisciplinary team of DTI Foundation experts, composed of: Dr. Francesco Procaccio,  Dr. Javier Aguirrezabalaga, Dra. Entela Kondi  and Estephan Arredondo.

During their visit, the team of experts had the opportunity to meet the Health Department and the Republican Scientific-Practical Center (RSPC) of organ and tissue transplantation and to visit differents hospitals.

Professional Training Program in Organ Donation

Professionals

Another edition of the online Professional Training Program in Organ Donation concluded successfully. Nine international experts from 5 different countries and 39 participants representing 11 countries from 4 different continents worked closely together to build valuable knowledge in the field of organ donation. It was hard work for both parts, experts and participants, but the experience was enriching on both ends.

Most of them will meet in January for the face to face part. Despite the fact that they haven’t met yet, the encounter will be pleasant as they already know each other from the virtual group activities, forum debates and webinars.

 


Intermediate Training Course in Transplant Coordination

The Institute for Transplantation of Organs and Tissues of The Republic of Slovenia and Transplant Procurement Management (TPM) - Donation & Transplantation Institute (DTI) celebrated the 4th Intermediate Training Course in Transplant Coordination. The course was at Hotel Plesnik – Logarska Dolinaon the days 25th - 27th of November.

Thirty participants from Brežice, Celje, Jesenice, , Izola Ljubljana, Novo Mesto, Nova Gorica, Maribor, Slovenj Gradec and Murska Sobota attended the training. During these days, another meeting with most of the heads of the transplant programs was held at The University Medical Center Ljubljana (UMC) and also a meeting at the Slovene MOH.

China National Training Program

TPM-DTI experts have had the pleasure to join the National Training Program for the Organ Donation Coordinator Trainers. The event was organized by China Organ Donation Administrative Center in Anhui, during the last days of November.

The training program was boosted by the best practice exchange between the Chinese and international experts. The goal was to improve the organ donation system in China.

The experience was unique and the feedback awesome. The Chinese healthcare professionals showed great commitment and determination in achieving their objective.

Martí Manyalich President of ISODP

Within the last Congress ISODP (Seoul) I started my term as President of the International Society for Organ Donation and Procurement (ISODP) until the next congress in Geneva ISODP September 2017.

It is an honor to represent all the organization of “International Society for Organ Donation and Procurement” and all his scientific and clinical research worldwide.

I hope that together with the whole family TPM-DTI, all the professionals and the willingness of patients who are waiting for transplants, we may collaborate and continue walking forward.

TPM International Symposium at the Iranian Congress of Transplants

Last week the TPM team made up by: Dr Procaccio from Italy, Dr Boni from Brasil, Professor Soler from ESADE Barcelona, Professors Katy Najafizadeh and Omid Ghobadi from Iran and Martí Manyalich president of the DTI, performed the first TPM International Symposium at the Iranian Congress of Transplants, in the city of Mashhad, located in the north of the country on the border with Afghanistan.

Participants, concretely 53 directors of the OPU (Organ Procurement Unit) who had already received training about TPM in 2013 and last year in Tehran, had the chance to extend their knowledge about:

  1. How to improve the functioning of their OPU.
  2. How to improve their clinical practices.
  3. How to develop the leading and team building tasks.

The training turned out to be very successful and it is significant to highlight the great enthusiasm from all assistants, the dedication from the Professors and the excellent support received from two organizations: The National Iranian Transplant Organization, represented by Dr Katy Najafizareh and her team Omid Ghodabi, Shadi Shafaghi and Shirin; and on the other side the hosts, the organizers of the congress, its president Dr Malek Hosseini and the president of the scientific committee Dr Yarmohammadi.

Successful stay of 11 students in Barcelona

Last period has been quite busy for the staff of TPM-DTI Foundation. After the successfully international TPM course in where 50 health care professionals from all over the world participated, 11 of the students stayed in Barcelona to visit our hospitals and to get to know with the everyday activity of the Donation and Transplantation inside the hospital.

The guests were doctors specialized in hepatic and kidney surgeons and ICU doctors from several regions of China. During this week we were happy to show to our visitors the units of Emergency, intensive unit care, transplant coordination, kidney, liver and heart transplantation and as well the immunology department. The main actors of the transplantation and donation procedures inside the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona engaged into discussions with our guests and share with them experience and knowledge in the field. Moreover, Catalan Transplant Organization (OCATT) and Banc de Sang i Teixits (BST)  were very kind to welcome our guests. We spend a whole day inside the installation of the BST and got information about the blood and tissue transplantation. Moreover the head of the OCATT, Dr. Jaume Tort  explained the health care system, the role of the OCATT and the allocation system and with his team shared with the guests the latest on donation rate, number of organ transplanted and the recipient outcomes in terms of survival rate after donation.

As highlight activity of this visit was the participation in the 3rd Edition of the Transplant Run on 15th November. Great results among the participants in Tissue course in Lisbon

Instituto Português do Sangue e da Transplantação, Portugal, along with TPM-DTI, Barcelona, organized a face to face Tissue Banking Course in Lisbon on November 9-10, 2015, to improve tissue donation in the country.

A total of 27 healthcare professionals from 12 different cities of Portugal (out of which 12 MDs and 10 RNs) joined the course. Theory blended with seminars and workshops boosting great interest among participants. Various types of evaluations were performed and the results are rewarding. More than 70% of the final evaluation test was correctly answered. Participants scored the course with 4.65 and found it highly applicable to their job: 4.50 (on a scale from 1-poor to 5 –excellent).

They greatly appreciated experts’ professionalism and commitment as well as the effort of the Portuguese national institute in donation and transplantation along with TPM-DTI, to provide a high quality training program in tissue donation.Grupo

The DTI team took part on the Transplant Run

The Transplant Run is a 5km solidary run that supports the collective of transplant patients, promoted by the Federation of Associations of Transplanted of Catalonia (FATCAT) and Novartis, with the backing of the Catalan Transplant Society and the support of the OCATT. Past November 15th, part of the DTI Foundation team took part on the third edition of this run, joining other 3.000 people in Barcelona.

Among the runners there was some transplanted people, who demonstrated this way that it is possible to have a high quality of life after transplantation. The total collection of entries, and donations made through row 0, was aimed at the development of social and health projects to support transplant patients and their families. For all the DTI participants was a great experience!
