DTI Foundation attended the 26th International Congress of the Transplant Society
The TTS Congress held in Hong Kong the last 18-23 of August was a success for the DTI Foundation. Our team attended the congress and moreover the president Dr. Martí Manyalich as well in the role of President-Elect of ISODP (International Society for Organ Donation and Procurement) played an important role in this congress. Many participants from all over the world shared experiences, new findings and networking with each other during the days of the Congress.
Being there for DTI was a very important experience in where the foundation´s activities were shared, new contacts were established and pillars for future collaborations were built .
DTI participated in the congress with three poster presentations, two campfire sessions and the as highlight of the congress two full plenary oral presentation successfully presented by Dr Manyalich. As for the wide field of influence in where our activities are spread the topics of our presentation were related to Deceased Donation and organ Procurement, Education and Training programs in Donation and Transplantation, Cooperation projects and Living Donation practices.
Moreover, to a high impact and gratefulness were the fact of finding the name of DTI and TPM in the most of the presentations from different countries related Trainings and Cooperation programs.
Is worthy to mention also the TPM-DTI stand in the exhibition hall of the Congress venue, in where we were able to meet our colleagues, partners in collaboration projects, former students of TPM trainings and Master programs . The stand offered the possibility of making new acquaintances and disseminating information about the Foundation Activities.
At this point we would like to thank everyone who joined us in this Congress and we assure that by working together we will keep the promises and accomplish the objectives of DTI mission.
1st Intermediate training course in Transplant Procurement Management in Hong Kong
The most recent training activity of DTI was the Intermediate Course In Transplant Procurement Management held in Hong-Kong on August 15-17th. This was the first course in Hong- Kong and was organized in collaboration with the Hospital Authorities of Hong-Kong.
39 participants with a variety of profiles coming from Intensive Care Units, Nephrology, Neurosurgery and Nursery were actively engaged in the training program together with the TPM experts. The local Transplant Coordinators, who previously were trained in TPM Barcelona participated as well in this course. The majority of the participants were from the main hospitals in where the donation and transplantation activity already is established. During the course all the participants had the opportunity to gather deeper knowledge in Donation practices and as well improve their skills by participating in the workshops and simulation practices. Several questioning sessions were facilitated in where the experts were happy to clarify every doubt the participants addressed.
Dr. Manyalich, as part of DTI expertize team, had also the opportunity to visits The Queen Mary Hospital and to meet with the directors, key point persons in donation and transplantation community in this hospital and as well with person at higher level of health care authority.
Moreover high interest for this activity was shown also by mass media who followed closer the activity and made interviews with the TPM-DTI experts.
Hoping that this curse will have an impact in the donation rate and transplantation activities in Hong Kong, DTI will be happy and pleased to continue further trainings and to further collaborate with the Health Authorities and our colleagues in Hong Kong.
Last call to the 13th edition of the International Master in Donation and Transplantation of Organs, Tissues and Cells
Next October 10th starts the new edition of the International Master in Donation and Transplantation of Organs, Tissues and Cells, organized by TPM-DTI Foundation and certified as a specific Master degree by the University of Barcelona.
The program includes on-line training, face-to-face training with practical simulations, and an internship in a prestigious centre. Participants will have the opportunity to learn and to exchange knowledge with their colleagues, experts, tutors and the centres’ staff. Also, it is an attractive program due to its modularity structure that allows participants to take the program in different periods.

6th year of collaboration to improve the donation and transplantation program in Trinidad and Tobago
Since 2010 DTI Foundation, supported by REPSOL Foundation is collaborating with the health authorities of Trinidad and Tobago to strengthen the Organ Donation and Transplantation program. In continuity of this project the past 5-8th of July the experts from DTI visited the country.
Meetings with the representatives of the National Organ Transplant Unit (NOTU), Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), and health professionals of three major hospitals in the country were performed. As highlighting meeting was the one with the Honorable Minister of Health, Dr. Terrence Deyalsingh. During the meetings were discussed the current situation of the donation and transplantation program, the needs of the local professionals and were established the future steps to be performed within the project.
Moreover, an one –day- workshop was organized. Alongside with the DTI experts the local transplant procurement coordinators were the faculty of this training. The objective was to increase the knowledge of the professionals toward the deceased donation program. The 30 participants of the workshop were from different hospitals, with different level of knowledge and involvement in donation and transplantation activities. The workshop was designed to be very interactive facilitating the participation of everyone.
Trustful for a great impact this visit and the training of the professionals will have in the future activities of donation and transplantation program we will keep working to increase the number of the transplants, thus to save and improve the life of the Trinidad and Tobago citizens.
Intermediate Training Course in Nanning, China
We have the pleasure to inform you that TPM in collaboration with Organ Transplantation Center, 303 Hospital of Chinese People's Liberation Army, Nanning, China, organized on July 20-22, 2016, an Intermediate Training Course In Transplant Procurement Management in Nanning.
Pre-course visits and meetings with hospital officials and representatives of the Organ Procurement Offices, Intensive Care Units, Transplant centers and Surgery wards were carried out in various hospitals from Guangxi province. International experts worked together with local experts to pool their knowledge and expertise and improve the organ donation practices in China.
A total of 47 participants from the entire Guangxi province (mostly ICU physicians) were present during the course. Participants were very active and the course was highly evaluated. This is one of the first steps in a long and fruitful collaboration with our friends and colleagues from Nanning.
Global Leadership Symposium
From May 22nd to 26th took place the 3rd Global Leadership Symposium in San Diego, California. In partnership, TPM, LifeSource, OneLegacy and the Gift of Life Institute from USA, gathered at this special event 71 international leaders in the donation field, from more than 20 different countries. GLS offered an extraordinary opportunity to learn and share knowledge, opinions and expertise of donation and transplantation practices, aimed to facing the challenges to overcome in the field in the near future.
Successfully closed the 12th edition of the International Master TPM-UB
This June has finalized the 12th edition of the International Master in Donation and Transplantation of Organs, Tissues and Cells (TPM-University of Barcelona). In this edition we have had 14 participants from 10 different countries. We have also trained 12 participants from 7 countries in the Master in Clinical Research (University of Barcelona), in the specialization of Organ, Tissue and Cell Donation and Transplantation. The participants have been deeply involved in every stage of the donation and transplantation process along the whole year guided by experts from all around the world and from the most prestigious centers. We hope that the new edition of the Master, starting on September 2016, will be as much enriching as the one that we have finished. Good job!
Good scores from the students to our Tissue Banking Course
We are delighted to inform that the 8th edition of the International Course on Tissue Banking and Advanced Therapies was successfully organized in May 30-June 2, 2016, at the University of Barcelona. The course gathered experts and participants from more than 11 countries from America, Asia, Australia and Europe. Although there is always room to improve, we reached scores of up to 4,92 (on a scale from 1-poor to 5 - excellent), which is the most treasured award for our experts. Participants acknowledged the enthusiasm and the knowledge of our experts along with the creative and interactive techniques they used to drive high impact learning. Congratulations to all for making this edition possible!
Participation on the Russian National Transplant Conference
Dr Manyalich has been invited as an expert to attend the 8th Russian National Transplant Conference that took place from 27th to 29th of June 2016 in Moscow, Russia, organized by Russian Transplant Society.
The Conference commemorated the 100th anniversary of the birth of the first Russian scientist and organ transplant pioneer, V.P. Demikhov. It has been very interesting and useful and, furthermore, it is always a pleasure to share experiences in Organ donation and Transplantation with our Russian colleagues.
Good results of the 1st Advanced Course in Kunming
The 1st Advanced Course in Kunming, took place from 26th to 29th April 2016. The 50 participants went through the whole program including the Action Learning and the Donor Plus exercise implemented for the first time in China. The experienced faculty team coming from Brazil, Spain, Australia and Iran shared once more their knowledge with the participants coming from the Yunnan province and the rest of the country. Kunming OPO has improved once more the donation rates after the training. Congratulations!
