25th Anniversary TPM
The 25th anniversary of the Transplant Procurement Management (TPM project) was celebrated on the 14th of November with a glamorous Academic Event in the Aula Magna of the central building of the University of Barcelona.
The opening ceremony was leaded by the acting rector of this University Dr. Jordi Alberch together with Dr. Eduardo Martín, responsible of the Education Programs at the National Transplant Organization (ONT), Dr. Jaume Tort, Director of The Catalan Transplant Organization (OCATT), Dr. Marti Manyalich Director of the TPM project, and Dr. Ricard Valero, Academic Director of the TPM project.
Following the ceremony, a throwback video with the most important moments of the lifetime of TPM was showed. In continuity, Dr. José Maria Domínguez, one of the pioneers of the TPM project and currently intensive care doctor at the Hospital Virgen del Rocío, Seville and Mrs. Susan Gunderson, Chief Executive Officer of LifeSource , Minnesota, USA, on behalf of the international community congratulated the TPM team. Further congratulation messages form the TPM friends and collaborators who did not attend the folowed ceremony, such: Dr. Danica Avsec from Slovenia, Dr. Ramadan Jashari from Belgium, Dr. Huang Jiefu from China, Dr. Häkan Gabel from Sweden, Dr. Francis Delmonico from USA and Dr. Alessandro Nanni Costa from Italy. In all the messages were highlighted the impact of the TPM trainings in increasing the donation rates in their respective countries.
The most recent successful collaboration agreement was signed during this ceremony. This agreement engages in collaboration the 303 Military Hospital in Nanning, China, the Donation and Transplantation Institute in Barcelona and the “12 of Octubre” Hospital in Madrid. The agreement was signed by the respective representatives, Dr. Ke Qin, Dr. Marti Manyalich and Dr. Amado Andrés. A gratitude video message from Prof. Xuyong Sun, the director of the transplant program at the 303 Military Hospitals followed. The Honorable Consul of China in Barcelona, Mr. Hang Teng and the Vice-consul, Mrs. Wenerya Wen attended the agreement signing ceremony.
Another important moment of the ceremony was the introduction to the “DTI Community”, a future project in where the DTI Foundation wishes to join together all the 13.000 professionals from 100 countries that have been trained up to day and to promote the community for the forthcoming professionals.
And finally, a round table with open discussions on the TPM role and the figure of the Transplant Coordinator was organized. Leaded by Dr. Assumpta Ricart from hospital Vall d´Hebron in Barcelona and with the participation of Dr. Mirela Bušić from Croatia, Mrs. Wenshi Jiang from China and Dr. Francesco Procaccio from Italy, this round table perfectly summarized the professionalism and the passion characterizing the Transplant Procurement Manager.
A social event closed the celebration of the 25th anniversary of TPM.

5th INTERMEDIATE TRAINING COURSE IN TRANSPLANT COORDINATION, SLOVENIA
We are delighted to inform you that TPM-DTI along with Institute for Transplantation of Organs and Tissues of the Republic of Slovenia organized in Ljubljana the 5th INTERMEDIATE TRAINING COURSE IN TRANSPLANT COORDINATION on October 24-26, 2016.
The event brought together experts from Slovenia and Spain, as well as a total of 31 health care professionals from different Slovenian centers. The training program blended lectures, seminars and simulations and was highly assessed, namely with 4.83 (5-excellent, 1-poor).
Moreover, a seminar on transplantation preceded the course, where members of Slovenian transplant teams along with international experts from Spain and UK debated on different aspects of transplantation with the ultimate aim of improving the activities of organ donation and transplantation in Slovenia. Congratulations to our Slovenian partners for their commitment and continuous efforts!
Visit to Beijing - 2016 China International Organ Donation Conference
Dr. Martí Manyalich attended the 2016 China International Organ Donation Conference last October in Beijing as President of the International Society of Organ Donation and Procurement.
During the conference it was established the Organ Procurement and Allocation Committee of the Chinese Hospital Association.
During this visit he was interviewed on CCTV news regarding the new outcomes of the Organ Donation and Transplantation in China.

He was also an invited speaker at Instituto Cervantes in Beijing where a round table was developed regarding the synergy between both countries in this matter.

Midterm Meeting of Seeding Life - SeeLife Project was held in Barcelona
On October 13th - 14th, 2016, the Midterm Meeting of the Seeding Life (SeeLife) Project funded by ERASMUS + Programme* was held in Barcelona, Spain.
A total of 12 professionals from 3 partner countries (Spain, Latvia and Bulgaria) participated in this Midterm Meeting.
Objectives of the meeting were:
- To review obtained results
- Nurture ongoing commitment and capacity to adopt project outcomes
- Determine objectives and deadlines for the second year
- Schedule the training program to be implemented, and organize its implementation (faculty staff, student’s registration, material, venues for face to face events).
- To follow up the Dissemination and Quality control activities
- To discuss Networking agreement draft proposal
- To clarify Project management, budget and administrative control systems
Actions taken:
- Reviewing the diagnosis study results & deliverables: functional & technical of the e-learning platform; author guideline; curriculum; evaluation rubric
- Reviewing the Learn to Teach Program: methodology and planning
- Discussion on the participant’s selection
- Outlining a draft program for Face to Face Training in Sofia, Bulgaria, May 2017 for Organ Donation, Organ Transplantation and How to teach training sessions
- Introduction in Online training, function and use of the e-learning platform
- Defining the base of the Seeding Life Consulting Network
- Defining next steps of Seeding Life project
- Clarification and discussion on Project Management matters
- Dissemination of the project

Visit to Gurgaon, India
INDIA –Delhi ( 1-3 September 2016)
We have been traveling to India this year and visiting several centres which perform organ transplantation. The Spanish Embassy in Delhi kindly gave us their support and joined us to these visits. The purpose of the hospital visits we performed was to analyze what are the needs in terms of organ donation, what are the situations and how can TPM-DTI support the development of these centres. Those are MEDANTA Medicity, APOLLO Hospitals and FORTIS Healthcare. Afterwards we were invited as speakers to the National Summit on Best Practices in Organ and Tissue Donation organized by the Fortis Memorial Research Institute.
We were also invited to the “Wall of Tribute” to the donors and their families celebration. It was a really interesting event, there were a lot of emotions and we felt very close to the donor families in India as well we do here in Barcelona, Spain, or any other part of the world – feeling is the same. Our gratitude to them. As a symbol of this respect, we lit the candle of the prayers and the freedom, which is a common ceremony in India.
Also in the main entrance of the Apollo Hospital there is the wall of honor where the names of the donors have a respect and a gratitude tribute. That was also a very well attended event together with all the representatives from all India.
15th Congress of the Middle East Society For Organ Transplantation
MESOT Congress in Amman, Jordan
21-24 September 2016
Some experts from Barcelona were invited to the MESOT Congress as experts in Organ Donation. We were lucky to meet our friends and colleagues from the Middle East Area all along the congress!
On September 22nd we ran a very successful workshop with Dr. Angel Ruiz and Dr. Ana Menjívar on DCD procedure including two lectures and two practical simulations.
In the main conference of the congress we presented the Developing Organ Donation for Transplantation lecture. This was very well appreciated as Spain is leading this field and was also recognized that the key persons who help to this development are the professionals related with emergency area, critical care and anesthesia.
1st Intermediate Training Course in Transplant Procurement Management, Dublin
The most recent place that hosted the TPM course was the wonderful city of Dublin, Ireland. From the 12th till 16th of September the DTI-TPM experts had the opportunity to share the experience with the main actors on the donation and transplantation activity in Ireland. Several visits were organized in the hospitals of Dublin and Galway. Meetings within the units of Emergency, Intensive Care and as well meetings with the regional transplant coordinators were held.
Additionally to the visits, was organized the first Intermediate Training course on Transplant Procurement Management. This course was supported by the Organ Donation and Transplantation Ireland (ODTI). More than 35 health care professionals from all over the country participated in this course. Lectures, workshops and in situ simulation engaged the participants during these days. Active discussions and sharing of experience from the common clinical practice were very fruitful for both parts. We believe this training will have a great impact in the donation and transplantation results all over Ireland.
Moreover, our colleagues were very kind to organize several social activities during our stay in Dublin. A very pleasant experience was visiting the commemoration garden “Circle of life” a national organ donor commemorative symbol that reflects the spirit of giving, the enduring legacy which defines the lives of organ donors. This wonderful garden is located in the city of Galway.
We are very thankful to our colleagues in Ireland and we do believe this great collaboration will continue with more activities in the future.

Transplant Procurement Management 25th anniversary
We are pleased to announce that this year 2016 we will be celebrating our 25th anniversary!
Transplant Procurement Management (TPM®) is an educational program that since 1991 has trained over 12.000 participants from 100 countries. TPM programs are designed to adapt the course contents to the specific needs of the diverse countries’ situation.
The Academic Event will take place on November 14th, 2016, from 11:00 till 14:00 h., in the Aula Magna of the historic building of the University of Barcelona.

TPM-model Organ Donation Workshop in Kobe, Japan
We are delighted to inform you that Hyogo Kidney Disease Countermeasure Association in collaboration with Transplant Procurement Management organized a TPM-model Organ Donation Workshop in Kobe, Japan, on September 10-11, 2016. The workshop was attended by 22 participants from 15 different centers and was very well received.
The local team leaded by Dr. Kazumasa Yoshinaga, previous Professor of Emergency Medicine/Community Medicine, Hyogo College of Medicine, included: Dr. Mikiko Yoshikawa, Dr. Takahiro Atsumi, Dr. Takaaki Osako, Dr. Takuro Hayashi, Dr. Shigeru Sano, Dr. Miho Takechi, Dr. Hiroki Takeda, Ms. Naomi Ogawa, Mr. Ichiro Sasaki, Ms. Yuki Imamura, Ms. Rei Otsubo and Ms. Mai Doi, most of them ex-TPM alumni.
Our team included three experts: José María Domínguez, Chief of the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit at Hospital Virgen del Rocio in Seville, José Luis Escalante, Director of the Transplantation Program, University General Hospital Gregorio Marañón, Madrid, and Melania Istrate, educational specialist, TPM and University of Barcelona, Spain.
The training program was followed by hospital visits of our team of experts in Kobe (University Hospital and Children's Hospital) and in Himeji, at the Steel Memorial Hirohata Hospital.
The dedication of our Japanese colleagues and friends is highly acknowledged and appreciated. We look forward to a continued and fruitful collaboration!
