11th edition of the University Day of Donation and Transplantation at UB
On the 9th of February took place the 11th edition of the University Day of Donation and Transplantation in the Faculty of Medicine of the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona. The session was organized by the coordinators of the University Master in donation and transplantation of organs, tissues and cells, Martí Manyalich, Chloë Ballesté, David Paredes and Ricard Valero of the DTI Foundation.

The objectives of the workday were to disseminate knowledge about donation, train university students and find out their knowledge about organ donation. The students of the optional subject of “Involvement of the medical student in the donation and transplantation” of the 2017-2018 course were in charge of spreading the event.
Throughout the meeting, proposals were made to promote the donation and several testimonies were able to share their own experiences. Also, it was held a didactic activity to test the assistant’s knowledge in the field of donation and transplantation with a positive response from the audience.
DTI delegation participates in Nephrology Society Conference in Sudan
Our dear Sudanese Master student, Dr. Abubakar Abdelwahab, invited DTI to present the Deceased Organ Donation Program in the 7th International Conference of the Sudanese Nephrology Society held in Khartoum, 30th of January - 3rd of February.
Dr. Vicens Torregrosa, Dr. Salvador Fojón and Dr. Chloë Ballesté were honored to present several topics on the field together with other international guests from Cameroon, Egypt and Ireland.

The DTI delegation had also the chance to visit 4 hospitals in Khartoum and meet with the professionals involved in ICU’s, dialysis and transplantation departments.

The kindness, enthusiasm and expertise of the professionals met there reinforced the belief that deceased donation has a great future in this awesome country. We are ready to contribute saving lives there!
28th edition of the Advanced International TPM course in Spanish, February 2018
The 28th edition of the Advanced International TPM course in Spanish took place from 13 to 16 February 2018.
The main objective of this course is the transfer of scientific and technical knowledge to develop the professional skills needed for obtaining organs and tissues for transplantation.

The opening day was held on day 13 in the "Parc Científic de Barcelona" (PCB) with representatives of the national transplant organisation (ONT), the Catalan Transplant Organisation (Organització Catalana de Trasplantaments-OCATT), Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and the PCB.
The course brought together thirty-seven participants representing 9 countries, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Dominican Republic and Spain. Among them, there were 7 students of the Alianza Master of the ONT.

As usual, after the first classes the course moved to Sant Hilari Sacalm within the environment of the Natural Park of Montseny. For four days participants have been able to learn and discuss with teachers both in theoretical classes such as practices.

This time, the course was accredited by the European Union of Medical Specialists - European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (UEMS-EACCME) with 27 ECMEC® s
First TPM course in Qingdao as part of the National Training Program in China
The DTI team traveled this January once more in China. The hosting region was the city of Qingdao in the Shandong province.
On 26th of January Dr. Manyalich was invited as special speaker at the China National Congress of Organ Procurement Organization- an annual meeting with all the Organ Procurement Organizations (OPO) around China in where are presented and discussed the main important findings in the field of Organ Donation and Transplantation.
Dr. Manyalich spoke about the model of the donation process from an international view and was pleased to share his experience and knowledge with the Chinese colleagues.

In continuity to the symposium on 27th of January started the 4rth edition of the Intermediate Transplant Procurement Management course at National Level. This course is part of a cooperation project coordinated by China Organ Donation Foundation and DTI foundation and internationally supported by WHO, that aims to train over 1200 health care professionals all over China in a period of 5 years (2014-2019).

The local organizer of the course was the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University. A total of 48 students; mainly ICU doctors coming from Qingdao region and other regions all over China were engaged in the TPM training course activities during the three days 27th till 30th of January.

The participants had the chance to gain knowledge and exchange experience with the international experts, coming from Spain, Iran, Brazil and the local experts coming from Qingdao, Beijing, Wuhan among the other regions.
The involvement and the dedication the students showed was very satisfying what made this course successful!

DTI's 10th Anniversary!!
This year the DTI Foundation celebrates the 10th anniversary. Since 2008 we work with the aim of saving lives through donation and transplant throughout the world.
This 10th anniversary will be celebrated with the incorporation of the new logo of the institution that will be included in all our communications.

Throughout the year we have scheduled a series of celebrations that will begin in May with an institutional event at the Foundation - Barcelona Science Park and in Autumn with one or more social events.
A delegation of the Thai Red Cross Society attends to a tissue bank course in Colombia coordinated by DTI Foundation
DTI Foundation is collaborating with Fundación Banco de Tejidos Humanos in the development of a consultancy program for the Thai Red Cross Society from Bangkok, Thailand. The program, focused on the procurement and process of musculoskeletal tissue, included a two-week course in the tissue bank facilities in Pereira, Colombia.

In this framework, Dr. Chalit Cheanvechai, Mr. Sombat Rongchaiyaphum and Ms. Nongnuch Maphanao attended the course that took place from January 22nd to February 2nd, 2018. Dr. Edison Duque and Dr. Jaime Duque from Fundación Banco de Tejidos Humanos were the Colombian experts in charge of the implementation. The course includes collaborations with the local hospitals, practical sessions and theoretical lectures to gain scientific knowledge and practical vision.
DTI experts visit the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the implementation of a quality management system on organ donation program.
DTI Foundation is collaborating with the SCOT (Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation) in a project sponsored by the Ministry of Health of KSA (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia). This 3-year program aims to implement a quality management system to increase deceased the donation rate.

Within this framework, an in-situ diagnosis study visit was organized last December 10-14 in KSA lead by Dr. Martí Manyalich (DTI president), Dr. José Luís Escalante (project director), Dr. Francesco Procaccio (ICU expert), Mr. Estephan Arredondo (project coordinator) and supported by SCOT experts.This visit included meetings with the Ministry of Health of KSA and medical experts at different hospitals in the cities of Riyadh and Jeddah to analyze the global situation of the country in terms of organ donation.

As a result of these encounters, some areas of improvement were detected and recommendations were pesented to the Ministry of Health as part of the quality report.
The next phase of the project will involve the implementation of quality indicators in six hospitals affiliated to the SCOT through an IT tool based on the successful model ODEQUS (Organ Donation European Quality System).
3rd Intermediate Training course in Transplant Procurement Management in Abu Dhabi
TPM-DTI Foundation together with the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and its multidisciplinary simulation centre organized the 3rd Intermediate Training Course in Transplant Procurement Management (TPM) from 27th to 29th of November 2017 in Abu Dhabi.
This course has gathered 51 participants from all over the country. These professionals have been taught about how is the organ donation system for transplantation in the Middle East, the history of this system and its future proposals, as well as the perspective of the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi on organ donation in the United Arab Emirates.

This 3rd training course in Abu Dhabi have treated others topics like how to approach families and make possible the organ donation, how to diagnose brain death patients and how to detect possible donors.
The participants are very satisfied with the course and they emphasize that thanks to it they have been able to identify the importance of Transplant Procurement Management as well as to be conscious of the value of organ donation. Moreover, some of them applied for the International Master in Donation and Transplantation of Organs, Tissues and Cells!!
Transplanting Smiles campaign continues
From the 12th to the 15th of December took place the presentation of the Transplanting Smiles project at the A Coruña Hospital Complex. The film production company Daristoteles has promoted this initiative with the sponsorship of Chiesi Laboratories and the collaboration of the DTI Community.

Transplanting Smiles campaign looks forward to thanking the health care professionals involved in organ donation and transplantation for their non-stop work and the society for its generosity to donate organs. The campaign will also help raise awareness of the importance of organ donation for transplant.
The health professionals of the A Coruña hospital were interviewed and shared their smile in the display that was placed at the hospital. During their stay, Daristoteles also made interviews to transplant patients and their families. All the interviews will be reflected in a documentary that will be made once the project has finished its way through different Spanish hospitals.

During its passage through A Coruña the project wanted to thank the health professionals for their work in the donation and transplantation of organs of the autonomous community of Galicia. Transplanting smiles continues to increase society’s awareness of the importance of organ donation for transplant.
