25th TPM Advanced International Training Course
This 25th English edition of the Advanced International Training Course was a special one. Not only because of the anniversary but also for having the biggest group of participants at this course since its first edition in 1994. 20 countries and 24 nationalities were represented among the 61 participants that are now members of the great TPM family.
When it comes to organ donation, they face the same needs and difficulties in places like Jamaica, Vietnam, India, Thailand, UAE, Japan, Latvia, Greece and Trinidad & Tobago among others. Participants learnt from each other and from our dedicated faculty team about the possibilities of improvement in this field within the course educational program.
Hopefully, they took this knowledge back home to work on it together with some good advices from our international experts so it is likely that we will meet again in future projects.
There was a farewell dinner party with a birthday cake and cava to make a toast for 25 more years to come!
We are already working on the next edition that will be held in October from 19th to 23rd, 2020.
DTI Community reunites former students during TPM breakfast
DTI Community, following its objective to connect healthcare professionals and students dedicated to organ donation and transplantation, has put together two TPM breakfasts for former students of Transplant Procurement Management courses, one in Mérida (México) and in Dubai (United Arab Emirates).
The first one took place on October 24th in Mérida, México, during the celebration of the XXV Latin American and Caribbean Transplant Congress, October 23 to 26.
During this breakfast, the attendants were able to enjoy interesting chats between professionals and grow their network of contacts, as well as listening to a presentation about DCD programs in the world, a presentation by a TPM alumnus.
Also, a new scholarship was given to a Mexican healthcare professional during the TPM Breakfast in Mérida, on October 24th. This scholarship, given to the Mexican doctor Santiago Martínez Bernal, covers the whole TPM Advanced Course that is going to take place in February 2020 in Barcelona.
The second TPM breakfast will be organized very soon, on November 13th at 7 am in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, within the 15th Organ Donation Congress (ISODP), which will be taking place between November 14th and 16th. It will be held at the same venue of the Congress in Intercontinental Festival City and former TPM students, as well as ESADE alumni, are invited.

4th Intermediate course in Davao, Philippines
The 4th edition of the Transplant Procurement Management Intermediate course (5th in Philippines) has recently wrapped up in Davao, Mindanao region.
The course has brought together 50 healthcare professionals who improved their competencies required in organ donation both clinical and non-technical, including teamwork and communication.
An advocacy event organized prior to the course was joined by healthcare professionals, patients and patient groups, decision- makers and journalists.
Local speakers together with experts from Croatia, Portugal and Spain shared with the audience their experience, progresses, obstacles, concerns and possible actions to go forward.
There was also a courtesy visit of the DTI-TPM faculty to SPMC Chief Dr. Leopoldo Vega after concluding the TPM course and they were invited to witness the construction of the soon-to-be SPMC Mindanao Kidney and Transplant Institute.

Donation & Transplantation congresses in September
September has been an extraordinary busy month for our staff. The attendance to the Organ Donation and Transplantation congresses organized in Denmark (ESOT), Spain (ONT) and India (CAST) has been a key piece for our foundation this last part of the year.
Learning about the state of the art in this field and sharing our last results of the year took our team to spend several extra-long days attending and performing presentations.
Most of them about the co-financed European Projects where we take part as organizing partners and educational leaders alongside the University of Barcelona. 
Henan 2nd Intermediate Training Course in Transplant Procurement Management
From the 14th till the 16th of August, a team of five international DTI experts joined with local experts had shared their organ donation knowledge and experience with 50 participants in the 2nd TPM Intermediate Organ Donation Course held in Zhengzhou, capital of Henan province. The participants were privileged to enhance their skills by learning form exceptionally proficient professionals from Spain, Slovenia, Brazil and China.
Healthcare professionals involved in donor procurement and transplant coordination require solid and comprehensive training to integrate the donation-transplant process in the clinical field. The TPM educational training’s main objective is to develop and improve these healthcare professional’s competences, providing them with the knowledge and skills required to efficiently perform their responsibilities.
This course is part of a cooperation project between The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Bethune Charitable Foundation and Transplantation Foundation and DTI Foundation. This cooperation aims at improving the organ donation and transplantation activity, facilitating the exchange of experience and expertise.
1st Intermediate Training Course in Goa State, India
Collaboration between the Goa Medical College and the DTI Foundation has made possible the organization of the 1st Intermediate Training course in Goa, India from the 29th till the 31st of July. This cooperation’s main goal is to establish a self-sufficient deceased organ donation program in the Goa state.
The TPM course was the perfect platform for exchanging knowledge and sharing experiences. A team of international DTI experts from Spain and Portugal joined by a group of excellent local experts had the opportunity of enhancing the expertise of the 52 participants from the Goa state. All together experts and participants engaged in this unique learning experience giving them the opportunity of connecting through their mutual passion for organ donation.
This three-day course aims to inspire the participants by its unique methodology with lectures, workshops and in situ simulation, the innovative approach encourages their motivation and enthusiasm to increase their knowledge and skills.
On the 27th of July the international experts had the opportunity to attend an Organ Donation and spirituality symposium organised by the Indian Medical Association with the Goa Union of Journalists. The Symposium gathered religious representatives of three major faiths to advocate their support to organ donation. Maulana Mohammed Zafar Alam Nadvi the Iman of Masjid-ul-Abrar at Margao, Fr Donato Rodrigues professor of moral theology at the Rachol Seminary and Sadguru Brahmeshanandacharya Swamisaid founder of the International Sadguru Foundation talked about what constituted a fair and beneficial organ donation process according to their faiths.
1st TPM course in Northern area of Philippines
After 3 motivational courses in Southern Region in the Philippines, TPM-DTI headed north to Dagupan, Luzon area. Alongside with Regional 1 Medical Center and with the institutional support of PHILNOS, the 4th Intermediate course was organized and performed with a total attendance of 40 participants from different hospitals and medical centers, mainly from the Northern Region.
For three days, from 26th to 28th June, which has been the National Kidney Month in Philippines, the group actively attended the lectures and workshops provided by TPM international experts.
Some participants expressed their willingness to get their hospitals involved in the donation-transplantation process: -“It will help me to initiate our hospital for Transplantation”. This is a comment that encourages us to follow with our training and cooperation tasks.
In order to support this program some authorities from R1MC attended the final day and delivery of certificates: Dr. Arnel Gerard R. Gazmen, the Chairperson of the Management Committee, Chief of The Professional Education and Training Services, and Department Manager of Internal Medicine, representing Medical Center Chief, Dr. Joseph Roland O. Mejia. Also, Dr. Hilarion H. Maramba, the Research Development and Management Director and Chairperson of the Events Committee.
The organization of the course was responsibility of Dr Rehana Pallingayan, Head of the Organ Procurement Unit of the Region 1 Medical Center, Dagupan City, Pangasinan and Ms. Christy Palaganas, Nurse Supervisor and Transplant Coordinator at the same center. Also, the R1MC staff and events members portrayed an excellent job organizing and taking care of all the attendees.
The last day, the TPM experts were invited to visit Dagupan city Hospital to meet some of the local medical staff and also to visit the new building where the first cornea's donations have been performed.
4th Intermediate Course in Thailand
The 4th Intermediate Training Course in Transplant Procurement Management took place at The Century Park Hotel in Bangkok – Thailand, on 5th – 7th June 2019. The training course was developed in collaboration with the Rajavithi Hospital, Department of Medical Services, Ministry of Health and Thai Red Cross. Forty-four healthcare professionals from across the country attended the training accomplishing the learning objectives successfully.
The training program was boosted by the best practice exchange between the Thailand and international experts from Portugal, Spain and Belgium. The experience was unique and the feedback formidable. The course participants showed great commitment and determination in achieving their objective: improve the organ donation system in Thailand.
We wish to extend our recognitions to Dr. Narong Aphikulvanich, Deputy Director General of Department of Medical Services and Dr. Visist Dhitavat, Director of The Thai Red Cross and to the entire faculty and organizing team for their excellent job.
Master Closing Ceremony
The 15th edition of the International Master in Donation and Transplantation of Organs, Tissues and Cells (TPM-University of Barcelona) finished this May.
33 students from 13 different countries participated in the Master. Moreover, we have also trained 18 participants from 9 countries in the Master in Clinical Research (University of Barcelona), in the specialization of Donation and Transplantation of Organs, Tissues and Cells.
The participants have shown great commitment and effort in every stage of the donation and transplantation process along this academic year. During the entire training, they were guided by top experts from the most prestigious centers from around the world.
The Master Closing Ceremony was held on the 31st of May, at the Centre Esther Koplowitz, Fundació Clínic per a la Recerca Biomèdica, Barcelona.
The program included a video a presentation A 100 training courses in Italy by TPM by Dr. Jose Luis Escalante, pioneer in organ donation and transplantation in Spain and currently director of the Transplantation Program at the University General Hospital Gregorio Marañón, Madrid. Dr. Escalante talked about the successful implementation of TPM training in Italy in the past 22 years.
The event counted with the participation of a special guest, Dr. Alessandro Nanni Costa, former president of the Italian National Transplant Center (Centro Nacionale Trapianti) who talked about Organ Donation and Transplantation in Italy in the past 20 years. 
Dr. Nanni Costa was awarded a honorary DTI plaque for his contribution to the development of organ donation and transplantation in Italy.
We hope that the new edition of the Master, starting in October 2019, will be as successful as this one!

11th International Course in Tissue Banking & Advanced Therapies
The 11th International Course on Tissue Banking and Advanced Therapies took place from 27th to 30th of May at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Barcelona and IBEC (Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia).
We are proud to say that this edition of the course was more than successful, gathering 32 participants from 16 different countries, and the faculty staff from USA, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Poland, Ecuador and Spain.
The participants have, undoubtedly, improved their knowledge and competences in tissue banking and advanced therapies through theoretical lectures and modern hands-on workshops given by some of the most prominent experts in the field.
