Good scores from the students to our Tissue Banking Course

Group photo, TB 2016We are delighted to inform that the 8th edition of the International Course on Tissue Banking and Advanced Therapies was successfully organized in May 30-June 2, 2016, at the University of Barcelona. The course gathered experts and participants from more than 11 countries from America, Asia, Australia and Europe. Although there is always room to improve, we reached scores of up to 4,92 (on a scale from 1-poor to 5 - excellent), which is the most treasured award for our experts. Participants acknowledged the enthusiasm and the knowledge of our experts along with the creative and interactive techniques they used to drive high impact learning. Congratulations to all for making this edition possible!


Good results of the 1st Advanced Course in Kunming

foto grupo informalThe 1st Advanced Course in Kunming, took place from 26th to 29th April 2016. The 50 participants went through the whole program including the Action Learning and the Donor Plus exercise implemented for the first time in China. The experienced faculty team coming from Brazil, Spain, Australia and Iran shared once more their knowledge with the participants coming from the Yunnan province and the rest of the country. Kunming OPO has improved once more the donation rates after the training. Congratulations!


TPM Training Course in Wuhan

Wuhan-okLast May, in Wuhan (China), TPM trained 100 professionals from all over the countries involved in organ donation, mostly ICU doctors and Surgeons. This is the first step of a 3 years cooperation program between Chinese Hospital authorities, WHO and TPM-DTI.
Thanks to Professor Qifa Ye, his team and the international experts coming from Spain, Iran, USA and Australia this awesome training has been possible. The increasing donation rates observed in China since the first DTI visit in 2012 by Dr. Chloë Ballesté, shows the positive results of the successful exchange knowledge and experiences driven by the partnership with the Chinese Donation and Transplantation Foundation, CLTR, Kunming OPO, Nanning OPO and Wuhan University.


Intermediate Training Course in Dubai

Dubai-16From May 8th – 9th Transplant Procurement Management has organized its first Intermediate Course in Dubai with the collaboration of the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences. Last year, TPM already held an Intermediate course in Abu Dhabi. The success of the experience strengthened the partnership with the UAE, leading to this recent collaboration in Dubai.
With over 40 participants, the course was preceded by the 1st UAE Organ Donation Forum, where the Organ Transplantation’s current situation in the country was addressed by a number of local and international experts.
The course was held in the Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor Medical Simulation Center and led by an experienced team of experts from Barcelona, Rome, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
We wish to extend our particular thanks to Dr. Ali Al Obaidli, SEHA Chief Academic Affairs Officer, and Dr. Farhad Janahi, MBRU Assistant Professor, for their support and making this course possible.


Course in Organ Donation and Transplantation in Colombia

BarranquillaBarranquilla (Colombia) held its 2nd Course in Organ Donation and Transplantation from April 25th to 27th 2016. TPM collaborated for this edition with the National Transplantation Foundation – Fundanat. In addition, experts from the National Healthcare Institute – INS and Universidad del Norte, as well as lecturers from Spain and Colombia.
Over 30 participants were present in a 3-day course, including conferences about the current situation and specific Colombian context regarding organ donation and transplantation.


International Master D&T: "Face to Face" sessions in Barcelona

The first "Face to Face" sessions of the current Edition of the International Master D&T took successfully place in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Barcelona from the 25th of January until the 5th of February.
The first module achieved was the Leadership & Quality Management in Organ Procurement and Transplantation with 7 students from 5 different nationalities.L&QM

The 28th and 29th January, 20 students from 8 nationalities went through the Professional Training in Organ Donation course.OTAnd the next week the first edition of the Organ Transplantation "face to face" course was implemented with 21 students from 9 different countries.PTODAfter the meeting in Barcelona the students are now pursuing the Organ Transplantation Online Course.  Finally in 4 months the Master will be over!


1st UK Transplant Procurement Management Workshop

On Friday the 12th of February, the Welsh Institute for Minimal Access Therapy (WIMAT) was proud to host the first UK Transplant Procurement Management Workshop DCD types II-III.

Dr. Raphael Chavez, a consultant transplant surgeon from the University Hospital of Wales co-organised the programme with a specialist team from Barcelona, Coruña and Santander.Grupo DCD Workshop 02On the other hand, all the UK healthcare workers,  are specialists in different areas: consultant surgeons, nurses and transplant coordinators.

Spain has the highest number of organ donors in the world (36 donors per million people, compared with 23 per million in Wales) and with the recent change in Welsh legislation where consent is assumed, it is hoped that that this course will optimise the opportunities that are now arising, transforming the lives of hundreds of patients across the principality.practicas DCD Workshop 08


26th edition of the “Curso Superior Internacional en Donación y Trasplante de Órganos y Tejidos”

The 26th edition of the “Curso Superior Internacional en Donación y Trasplante de Órganos y Tejidos” took place in February 16th to 19th in Sant Hilari Sacalm. With the occasion of the TPM 25th anniversary this exceptional course gathered fifty participants representing 13 different countries, such Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Ireland, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panamá, Peru, Portugal, Spain and Trinidad & Tobago.IMG_5310The opening ceremony was held at “Parc Cientific Barcelona” with representatives of ONT, OCATT and PCB, unconditional supporters of TPM since its beginning.

As usual, in a pleasant countryside atmosphere with faculties internationally recognized faculty, the course ran smoothly to accomplish its goals by covering all the subjects related to the organs and tissue donation processes.IMG_9348

To celebrate this remarkable anniversary a dinner attended by the founders and most prominent faculty was held on Wednesday, February 17th.

Chinese professionals came to Barcelona

On the framework of the collaboration program between DTI Foundation and China, a group of health care professionals came to Barcelona at the end of January.

The visitors are all students of TPM Master and came to attend the Transplantation module of the Master, held at the University of Barcelona on 28th and 29th of January. The professional profile of the visitors was surgeons (kidney and liver transplant surgeon) and ICU doctors.

During these days all the team had the pleasure to go with the guests in the installations at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona and to show the everyday practice of the donation and transplantation programs in our hospital. Meetings with the transplant coordinators, the experts of kidney, liver, heart and pancreas transplantations were organized. The visit at the Immunological Laboratory and the meeting with the Chairman of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Barcelona were very much appreciated by the visitors.

Moreover, a visit in the Hospital 12 de Octubre and the National Transplant Organization (ONT) in Madrid was made. In this way the guest doctors had the opportunity to visit another big hospital and to evaluate the similarities and the differences between both hospitals; 12 de Octubre Madrid and Hospital Clinic of Barcelona.  Dr. Eduardo Martin, an ONT member, presented the Spanish model view and the latest data on the Spanish transplantation and donation activities.IMG_8131IMG_8563


Professional Training Program in Organ Donation

Professionals

Another edition of the online Professional Training Program in Organ Donation concluded successfully. Nine international experts from 5 different countries and 39 participants representing 11 countries from 4 different continents worked closely together to build valuable knowledge in the field of organ donation. It was hard work for both parts, experts and participants, but the experience was enriching on both ends.

Most of them will meet in January for the face to face part. Despite the fact that they haven’t met yet, the encounter will be pleasant as they already know each other from the virtual group activities, forum debates and webinars.
