26th edition of the “Curso Superior Internacional en Donación y Trasplante de Órganos y Tejidos”
The 26th edition of the “Curso Superior Internacional en Donación y Trasplante de Órganos y Tejidos” took place in February 16th to 19th in Sant Hilari Sacalm. With the occasion of the TPM 25th anniversary this exceptional course gathered fifty participants representing 13 different countries, such Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Ireland, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panamá, Peru, Portugal, Spain and Trinidad & Tobago.The opening ceremony was held at “Parc Cientific Barcelona” with representatives of ONT, OCATT and PCB, unconditional supporters of TPM since its beginning.
As usual, in a pleasant countryside atmosphere with faculties internationally recognized faculty, the course ran smoothly to accomplish its goals by covering all the subjects related to the organs and tissue donation processes.
To celebrate this remarkable anniversary a dinner attended by the founders and most prominent faculty was held on Wednesday, February 17th.
Chinese professionals came to Barcelona
On the framework of the collaboration program between DTI Foundation and China, a group of health care professionals came to Barcelona at the end of January.
The visitors are all students of TPM Master and came to attend the Transplantation module of the Master, held at the University of Barcelona on 28th and 29th of January. The professional profile of the visitors was surgeons (kidney and liver transplant surgeon) and ICU doctors.
During these days all the team had the pleasure to go with the guests in the installations at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona and to show the everyday practice of the donation and transplantation programs in our hospital. Meetings with the transplant coordinators, the experts of kidney, liver, heart and pancreas transplantations were organized. The visit at the Immunological Laboratory and the meeting with the Chairman of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Barcelona were very much appreciated by the visitors.
Moreover, a visit in the Hospital 12 de Octubre and the National Transplant Organization (ONT) in Madrid was made. In this way the guest doctors had the opportunity to visit another big hospital and to evaluate the similarities and the differences between both hospitals; 12 de Octubre Madrid and Hospital Clinic of Barcelona. Dr. Eduardo Martin, an ONT member, presented the Spanish model view and the latest data on the Spanish transplantation and donation activities.
Professional Training Program in Organ Donation
Another edition of the online Professional Training Program in Organ Donation concluded successfully. Nine international experts from 5 different countries and 39 participants representing 11 countries from 4 different continents worked closely together to build valuable knowledge in the field of organ donation. It was hard work for both parts, experts and participants, but the experience was enriching on both ends.
Most of them will meet in January for the face to face part. Despite the fact that they haven’t met yet, the encounter will be pleasant as they already know each other from the virtual group activities, forum debates and webinars.
Intermediate Training Course in Transplant Coordination
The Institute for Transplantation of Organs and Tissues of The Republic of Slovenia and Transplant Procurement Management (TPM) - Donation & Transplantation Institute (DTI) celebrated the 4th Intermediate Training Course in Transplant Coordination. The course was at Hotel Plesnik – Logarska Dolinaon the days 25th - 27th of November.
Thirty participants from Brežice, Celje, Jesenice, , Izola Ljubljana, Novo Mesto, Nova Gorica, Maribor, Slovenj Gradec and Murska Sobota attended the training. During these days, another meeting with most of the heads of the transplant programs was held at The University Medical Center Ljubljana (UMC) and also a meeting at the Slovene MOH.
We want to extend our particular thanks to Dr. Danica Avsec, Director of Slovenija Transplant, Dr Andrej Gadžijev, Dr Urška Kogovšek, mentors to central transplant coordinators and all the Faculty and organizing team.
China National Training Program
TPM-DTI experts have had the pleasure to join the National Training Program for the Organ Donation Coordinator Trainers. The event was organized by China Organ Donation Administrative Center in Anhui, during the last days of November.
The training program was boosted by the best practice exchange between the Chinese and international experts. The goal was to improve the organ donation system in China.
The experience was unique and the feedback awesome. The Chinese healthcare professionals showed great commitment and determination in achieving their objective.

Great results among the participants in Tissue course in Lisbon
Instituto Português do Sangue e da Transplantação, Portugal, along with TPM-DTI, Barcelona, organized a face to face Tissue Banking Course in Lisbon on November 9-10, 2015, to improve tissue donation in the country.
A total of 27 healthcare professionals from 12 different cities of Portugal (out of which 12 MDs and 10 RNs) joined the course. Theory blended with seminars and workshops boosting great interest among participants. Various types of evaluations were performed and the results are rewarding. More than 70% of the final evaluation test was correctly answered. Participants scored the course with 4.65 and found it highly applicable to their job: 4.50 (on a scale from 1-poor to 5 –excellent).
They greatly appreciated experts’ professionalism and commitment as well as the effort of the Portuguese national institute in donation and transplantation along with TPM-DTI, to provide a high quality training program in tissue donation.
The Advanced International TPM course closed its 21st edition
The 21st edition of the Advanced International TPM course took place in November 9th to 13th, 2015. This exceptional course with internationally recognized Faculty, gathered fifty participants representing Australia, Austria, China, Croatia, Ireland, Japan, Macedonia, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, South Africa, Sweden, The Netherlands, Vietnam and USA. Among the faculty we counted with experts from Austria, Australia, Brazil, Colombia, France, Germany Latvia, Spain, Switzerland and the USA. We enjoyed and learned from a great diversity of professional experiences and cultural backgrounds.

With leading edge presentations, simulated scenarios role-play and hands on learning, this course covered the breadth of the donation and transplantation process. More than anything, we wish that all participants went back to their countries and jobs energized by an expanded global perspective, enriched by sharing with international colleagues, and excited by new ideas and approaches to the worldwide lifesaving mission of donation.
TPM Course in Croatia
The second Intermediate Training Course in Transplant Procurement Management took place at Tomislavov Hotel in Zagreb, September 30th to October 2nd, 2015. In collaboration with The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia, The Donor Network of Croatia and TPM-DTI Foundation thirty six healthcare professionals from Croatia, Bulgaria, Bosnia Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro, Moldova and Romania attended the course. Participants from neighboring countries showed great interests in endorsing future activities in the field of organ donation and transplantation development in their hospitals. We wish to extend our particular thanks to Dr. Mirela Busic, Dr. Nikola Žgrablić, the Croatian Faculty and organizing team for making it possible.
