Great news from Seeding Life Project - a total of 27 trainers from Bulgaria and Latvia certified!
On May 18-22, 2017, we organized the Learn to Teach Face to Face course of the Seeding Life (SeeLife) project in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Five experts from the University of Barcelona and the DTI Foundation, Barcelona, Spain, leaded the sessions and boosted best practice exchange among participants, who were highly interactive.
The first two days were devoted to simulations, workshops, lectures and interactive clinical cases on organ donation and transplantation, followed by two days on teaching and learning strategies in medical education, with the final aim of facilitating the acquisition of core and horizontal competences required by the healthcare professionals in the field.

The training program ended with the preparation of 15 national seminars on organ donation and transplantation, to be implemented in the following months in five target areas from Bulgaria and Latvia.
A total of 27 participants from Bulgaria and Latvia were certified as trainers.

The training program was scored between 4,7 and 5 on a scale from 1-poor to 5- excellent.
The media, represented by national television and radio, followed the implementation of the training program and supported its dissemination.

Presentaton of the shortfilm "This is your baby" co-produced by Bulgaria and Spain
The National Agency for Transplant in Bulgary alongside with the Spanish Embassy in Sofia have collaborated in the making of the shortfilm "This is your baby".
The shortfilm has been shot in Spain and explains the organ donation issue from a human and touching perspective.
The premier will be in Barcelona next June 2nd at 13:30pm at the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Barcelona.
This presentation will take place within the closing ceremony of the International Master in Donation and Transplantation of Organs, Tissues and Cells. Moreover, some international experts will participate among representatives of the Faculty of Medicine and local authorities.
This iniciative is possible with the support of the Catalan Transplant Organization, DTI Foundation and our exalumni community.

TPM Intermediate training courses in Argentina
Two Intermediate Training Course in Transplant Procurement were developed in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on April 24th-28th.

More than 80 healthcare professionals, mainly specialists in critical care and surgeons, attended the course. The main topics of the course were donor detection, brain death diagnosis, donor management, family interview and organ viability criteria.

During the week, DTI experts took the opportunity to visit CUCAIBA facilities and to participate in the National meeting for organ donation as special guest. This event was attended by Jorge Lemus, Minister of Health of Argentina, Mª Carmen Bacqué, President of INCUCAI and the vice ministry of health, Evelina Chapman.

We wish to extend our thanks to CUCAIBA represented by Dr Clemente Raimondi, President and INCUCAI, represented by Dr Mª Carmen Bacqué, President and all the local organizing committee.

Presentation of EUDONORGAN initiative at European Commission
We are delighted to inform our friends and colleagues that during the 13th Competent Authority Meeting on Organ Donation and Transplantation, held on April 5 – 6, 2017, the Training and social awareness for increasing organ donation in the European Union and neighbouring countries (EUDONORGAN) initiative was presented by the project team. 
EUDONORGAN, is a service contract awarded by the European Commission on the initiative of the European Parliament. It was launched in September 2016 and will last for 36 months. The main objective of the project is to provide training and increase social awareness in the European Union and neighbouring countries with the ultimate aim of creating a strong community of advocates in organ donation and increasing the number of organ donors.
The meeting was hosted by the European Commission and presided by the team DG Sante Unit B4 – Substances of Human Origin Team. Representatives from the Council of Europe and WHO were also present. The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Competent Authorities of the Member States and neighbouring countries of the European Union.
The support of all Competent Authorities and their cooperation was highlighted as essential for a maximized impact of EUDONORGAN.

19th Meeting of the European Committee (Partial Agreement) on Organ Transplantation (CD-P-TO)
Last March 19-20th, Dr. Martí Manyalich and Estephan Arredondo from DTI Foundation, attended the 19th meeting of the European Committee (Partial Agreement) on Organ Transplantation (CD-P-TO) which was held in Strasbourg to present the results of the dissemination of the Council of Europe technical guides by DTI’s training programs.

Since 2010 the Guide on the Quality and Safety of Organs for Transplantation and the Guide to the Quality and Safety of tissues and cells for human application has been disseminated to more than 1000 health care professionals from 22 countries members of the Council of Europe. The technical guides have been disseminated through the implementation of the online, face to face training programs, master degrees and DTI consultancy programs.

"Curso Superior Internacional en Donación y Trasplante de Órganos y Tejidos" 2017
The 27th edition of the “Curso Superior Internacional en Donación y Trasplante de Órganos y Tejidos” took place in February 14th to 17th in Barcelona and Sant Hilari Sacalm. The course gathered forty-nine participants representing 9 different countries, such Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Panama and Spain.

The opening ceremony was held at “Parc Cientific de Barcelona (PCB)” with representatives from the Organización Nacional de Trasplantes (ONT), Organització Catalana de Trasplantaments (OCATT) and PCB.

For four days, the group of participants developed an enthusiastic motivation which result led us to one of the best results in our evaluation tests throughout the last years.

TPM family is still growing in number of participants, faculty and staff assuring the continuity of this so well internationally recognized training program in organ and tissue donation and transplantation.
Face to face Master courses in Barcelona

From the 23th of January until the 3rd of February took place the first face to face period of the International Master in Donation and Transplantation of Organs, Tissues and Cells (University of Barcelona & Transplant Procurement Management) and the Master in Clinical Research, specialty in Organs, Tissues and Cells (University of Barcelona). There were also several participants that took these courses as a postgraduate training.
During these two weeks three courses were held in the Faculty of Medicine in the University of Barcelona; Procurement & Transplantation Management (January 23-25), with 20 participants and Organ Procurement (January 25-27) with 30 participants from 16 countries each course. The Organ Transplantation sessions (30 January – February 3) counted with 27 participants from 13 countries.

These courses included theory sessions as well as workshops where the participants put into practice the knowledge acquired along the course. All these three courses were also completed with an online training course through the TPM virtual platform that helps participants to strengthen the concepts on the field.
2nd International course in Transplant Procurement Management, Hangzhou- China
The Donation and Transplantation Institute (DTI) together with the World Health Organisation (WHO), the China Organ Transplantation Development Foundation, the Zhejiang Medical Association and the First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University, all together organized in Hangzhou the 2nd International Course in Transplant Procurement Management (TPM) on December 2016 in Hangzhou. The aim of this event is the collaboration project between DTI Foundation and several Chinese Institutions to develop the voluntary deceased donation in the country.

The course brought together experts from Spain, Australia, Hong Kong, Iran and USA. Among others was Dr. Frank Delmonico, Academician of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and Advisor to the World Health Organization. A total of 96 Chinese doctors where trained about leading practice in organ donation and during the 3 days of the course they were instructed with knowledge and skills to be implemented in their hospitals. DTI wants to thanks to the local organisations for their support in the development of the course.

EUDONORGAN project has been launched!

The project ¨Training and social awareness for increasing organ donation in the European Union and neighbouring countries¨ (EUDONORGAN) has already started.
EUDONORGAN is a service contract awarded by the European Commission from the European Union budget, on the initiative of the European Parliament.
This project is developed by an international consortium led by UB-FBG, located in Barcelona Science Park (PCB), together with the DTI Foundation, Spain. The consortium partners are: The Institute for Organ and Tissue Transplantation of the Republic of Slovenija, Slovenija-Transplant; The Institute for Transplantation and Biomedicine - Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia; Italian National Transplant Centre - Italian National Institute of Health, Italy, and Dinamia (Spain), specialized in consultancy and evaluation of healthcare projects.
It is based on two work packages (WPs) – Train the Trainers and Social Awareness. The main aim of the project is to develop and implement two types of activities at EU level, focusing on training and social awareness for increasing organ donation in the European Union and neighbouring countries.
The work package Train the Trainers is coordinated by Donation and Transplantation Institute (DTI), through our International Program Transplant Procurement Management TPM.
The Advanced International TPM course closes its 22nd edition
The 22nd edition of the Advanced International TPM course took place in November 14th to 18th, 2016 in Barcelona and Sant Hilari Sacalm, Spain.
This course gathered 51 participants representing Australia, Austria, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Ethiopia, Germany, Japan, Myanmar, Norway, Philippines, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Trinidad & Tobago, and USA. Among our internationally recognized and long-time collaborators, we counted on faculty members from Austria, Australia, Brazil, China, Colombia, France, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, UAE and USA. This diversity contributed to the exchange of experiences and better practices among the attendees.

The course covers every step of the organ donation and transplantation processes through a combined methodology of lectures and practical simulations for effective and applicable learning.
Above all, we wish that all the participants are back to their home countries enthusiastic and inspired by the experience and the international exchanges. We hope they will use all the acquired knowledge and skills to improve donation and transplantation worldwide.
